Ross's Zweite Entdeckungsreise Nach Den Gegenden Des Nordpols - Volume with 14 Engravings
This exploration volume with 14 engravings is Capitain Sir John Ross's Zweite Entdeckungsreise Nach Den Gegenden Des Nordpols, 1829-1833. The work was published in Berlin in 1835.

This is the German translation of the work also published in 1835 entitled Narrative of a Second Voyage in search of a north-West Passage, and of a esidence in the Arctic Regions during the years 1829 [-]... 1833 ... Including the reports of ... James Clark Ross ... and the discovery of the northern Magnetic Pole. It is considered a fundamental work on Arctic exploration. The expedition resulted in the discovery of the Magnetic Pole.

The volume is bound in 3/4 leather, marbled boards, gold gilt lettering. There 14 plates, 3 of which are in color (some plates are folding). An ex-library stamp is present to the title page.

Sir John Ross (1777-1856) was a Scottish Royal Navy officer and polar explorer. He first voyaged in 1818 but this was considered a failure of a mission. This work accounted for his second voyage which achieved numerous milestones. It included a thorough exploration of Boothia Peninsula. His nephew, James Clark Ross, took the overland journey and became the first to reach the North Magnetic Pole. He ultimately had to abandon his ship Victory in 1832 in the ice at Felix Harbour. They were rescued in 1833 in Lancastor Sound.
