Before the Second World War, the British government decided to create a new force for women, and a public council decided that the new force would be part of the "territorial army" and that women would serve two-thirds of the male soldiers' salaries.
Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) was the women's military corps of the British army during World War II. The roots of the ATS in the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps (WAAC), created as a voluntary force in 1917 during the First World War. The WAAC female soldiers served in various positions as clerks, cooks, waitresses and waitresses until the Corps was dissolved in 1921.
