Prison Wronke lettersheet 1943
During the Nazi occupation, the prison facility in Wronki was incorporated into the system of court prisons of the Third Reich as part of the Wartheland. It was one of the largest prisons incorporated into Germany. The facility is intended for men and women sentenced to imprisonment from 6 months to 2 years. In terms of nationality, the prisoners in Wronki were mainly Poles. Throughout the occupation, over 28,000 prisoners passed through the prison. This number does not include prisoners of war, hostages and other people imprisoned in Wronki during the first weeks of the occupation. The prisoners were held in quarantine for many months before being sent to other prisons or concentration camps, mainly Oświęcim and Mauthausen, to industrial plants using slave labor. The prison was constantly overcrowded. The highest prisoner status - 4,458 was recorded on November 1, 1942. 804 Poles were buried in the Wroniec cemetery during this period. The Nazis also carried out about two thousand executions in the forests on the road to nearby Obrzycko
