Letter from Rabbi Yissachar Abulafiah, Son of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Abulafiah, 1768. Rare

Rare and important letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Yissachar Abulafiah, son of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Abulafiah, founder of the Jewish settlement in Tiberias. Avignon (southern France), 1768.

This letter was written when he set out on a mission to Europe in 1740 to fund the Jewish settlement in Tiberias founded by his father, the author of  Etz Chaim. He was sent from Avignon - one of three oldest Jewish communities in the South of France, to the province of Modena. In his letter, Rabbi Yissachar apologizes that he did not manage to reach Modena to see them, so he is therefore requesting that they send their donation to Mantua. He writes in a beautiful lyrical manner in the style of the great Sephardic sages.

Refer to the Hebrew text for a brief biography of the gaon and tzaddik  Rabbi Yissachar Abulafiah.

[1] sheet of paper folded in two, 19x28 cm each. The first leaf is entirely handwritten by him and signed with his calligraphic signature. The second leaf bears the names of the addressees and their addresses in Hebrew and in a foreign language.
Very fine condition. Aging stains. Fold marks. Tiny tear without lack.
