Two Booklets by Rabbi Kook About the Polemic on the Prohibition Against Electing Women. Rare Booklets with Historic Significance

*Open Letter! To the Committee of the "Mizrachi" Federation by Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaCohen Kook. Jerusalem, at the Schoenbaum - Weiss printing press, 1919.

Specifications: [4] pages, approximately 21 cm.

Content: Emphatic letter from Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaCohen Kook about the prohibition against electing women to the gathering of Nivcharei Yehudei Eretz Yisrael. In this period, a stormy polemic began among the Jewish religious community about the elections, which caused a rift in the Jewish religious community.

*Teshuva Klalit! ... About participation of women in the elections, by Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak HaCohen Kook. [Jerusalem, at the Solomon Printing Press, 1920].

Specifications: 7 pages, 22 cm.

Content: Long responsum about electing women to the 'Asifat HaNivcharim.' Rabbi Kook writes on the booklet's title page that he has already expressed his [negative] opinion on the matter, but he sees fit to discuss it at greater length. The responsum was written on 10 Nissan 1920, and dealt with a stormy polemic which arose at the time. Rabbi Kook's opinion was that it is inappropriate for women to take part in the first elections for the Asifat HaNivcharim. This led to a polemic and to a rift in the Religious Zionist community. In the booklet before us, Rabbi Kook expands on the topic, and proposed to leave the decision to the Convention of Rabbis of the Land of Israel. Indeed, the convention took place on 26 Nissan, 1920. Rare booklet. Listed in the Bibliography of the Hebrew Book according to a copy from Mossad HaRav Kook.

Condition: Overall fine condition.
