Polemic Sefer: Sefer HaOmanut. Ferrara, 1556. Important Signatures from the Period of Printing
Sefer HaOmanut authored by the pious sage Rabbi Shem Tov ztz"l. Ferrara, Avraham ibn Oshki Press. 1556. Important polemic work in philosophy and Jewish faith. First edition. Early rabbinic owners' signatures.
In this sefer, the author attacks the Ramba"m head-on, as well as ibn Ezra and the Ralba"g - all due to their occupation with philosophy. In the sacred author's opinion, the philosophical inclination of his contemporaries is one of the things that caused them to be unable to withstand the gezeirot hashmad - hence their acquiescence to be converted. This sefer caused a tremendous controversy, and years later, Rabbi Moshe Elshaker rebutted the author.
From the author's preface: "Sages came ... and were drawn after the Greeks, establishing in their minds that Torah and Faith have been given over to the minds of humanity, and there is no need for prophesy or tradition ... and when I looked into what they had to say ... a flame burned inside of me because a malignant leprosy has flourished and I saw that in all generations that those who were expert in this field denied basic religious principles and converted ... and this is why I authored this ... sefer - some words in the ways of Torah and Kabbalah."
Rabbinic owners' signatures from the time of printing: "Belongs to Yitzchak son of Leoni ..."; "Belongs to Moshe Leoni ..." these may be signatures by Moshe Leon of Urbino - one of the rabbis of Ancona, and by his father, Rabbi Yitzchak.

Fine-very fine condition. Light aging stains. 4 leaves at the beginning of the sefer [leaves 5-8] have been professionally mechanically restored, and they are slightly thicker than the other leaves. Tiny restored tears in the margins of the title page, far from the text. Elegant new binding.
