Set of Chok L'Yisrael. Zhitomir - from the Sacred Press of the Shapira Family


Set of five volumes of Chok L'Yisrael - Bereishit, Shemot, Vayikra, Bamidbar and Devarim. The set consists of volumes from different editions. Zhitomir, R' Chanina Lipa and R' Yehoshua Heschel Shapira Press - grandsons of the Slavuta Rebbe.


As is known, sifrei kodesh printed at the Shapira family's presses were preferred and especially appreciated by leading Admo"rim and their followers.


Details of the volumes:

Bereishit: 1865. [2], 5-259 leaf. Apparently lacking the first title page and another leaf or two at the beginning of the volume.

Shemot: 1857. 238 leaf. Two title pages, the first with red ink.

Vayikra: 1816. 236 leaf. Two title pages, the first with red ink. Not listed in Mif'al HaBibliographiah.

Bamidbar: 1857. 216 leaf. Lacking the first title page. Impressive original leather binding.

Devarim: 1856. 231 leaf. Lacking the first title page. Not listed in Mif'al HaBibliographiah.


[5] volumes. Varying sizes - 18-18.5-19 cm. Owners' signatures and notations.

Overall fine condition. Minimal worming perforations. Stains and usage marks. Tears with lack in two leaves of the Shemot volume (without lack in the text), filled in with paper completions. Two partially detached leaves in the Bereishit volume. Bamidbar is in its original leather binding. Bereishit, Shemot and Devarim are bound in new fabric bindings. Vayikra is unbound.
