Early edition of Josephus, unchallenged across the entire Diaspora, and quoted by Rishonim including Rash"i. Venice, 1544.


In the colophon: "Heaven's work has been completed ... by the [printers] from Yasi' Juani di Pe'eri and his brothers, those responsible for the work of the most beautiful printing, and by the expert in the craft of printing, none other than Cornelio b"cr Baruch Eidelkind ... and it was completed on the eve of the Passover holiday in 1544 here in Venice ... under the authority of the government ..."


First edition of this renowned work, from which it became known more commonly as Josephus. Stefansky, Sifrei Yessod no. 533; HaMadpis Cornelio Eidelkind no. 13.


[3], 5-195 leaf. Lacking the title page and the following two leaves. Nothing is lacking from the body of the work. 19 cm. High-quality paper.

Fine condition. Proofreading markings. Aging stains. Minimal worming perforations. Restored tears in the margins of [3] leaves, with blemishes in individual lines. Well-preserved parchment binding.
