Rare Certificate from the Gaon Rabbi Yisrael Ashkenazi, Av Beit Din of Tismenitz [Uncle of the Yitev Lev of Sighet] - Official community document, very beautiful and unusual, signed [twice in Hebrew and once in a foreign language] by the gaon Rabbi Yisrael Ashkenazi,   av beit din  of Tismenitz, brother of the sacred gaon Rabbi Moshe David of Tolcsva. [7 Tevet/28 December 1823]. Hebrew and German. Letters from him are extraordinarily rare. Certificate in German stating that a Polish Jew declared - after law confirmed that he had no property, business, or any trade with which to support himself - that he has nothing. He lacks any relatives and is supported by members of the community. He is presently in desperate need of 40 gulden to cover his debts.
