Handwritten Letter from Rabbi Yosef Rosen - the Rogochover - Controversy around the Selection of a Rabbi in Poland - Letter regarding the controversy surrounding the selection of Rabbi Eliezer Yehoshua Epstein as rabbi of Chmelník. The responsum is written on the back of a flyer on the topic. The poster is unknown, as is the Rogochover's responsum. Controversy in the Chmelník community. Rabbi Eliezer Yehoshua Epstein, son of the Admo”r Rabbi Avraham Shlomo of Ozhorov, was a rosh yeshivah in Kielce and rabbi in Apta and then in Rakov. He was selected to serve as rabbi in Chmelník, but the previous rabbi's son objected to this choice. This poster states a detailed ruling confirming the choice of Rabbi Epstein. Bibliographically unknown poster. The poster was likely sent to Rabbi Yosef Rosen, and he responded to the community in the letter written on the back of the poster. The responsum is in his own penmanship and with his signature. Not a lot is known about this controversy, but he did indeed serve as town rabbi. In  Shu”t Tzofnat Paneach , there is a responsum in which Rabbi Yosef Rosen, the Rogochover, appoints Rabbi Epstein as the local rabbi. There is also a responsum there that was sent to him regarding the appointment of a rabbi, apparently due to the objection that arose. Material included on the topic. Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of Rabbi Eliezer Yehoshua Epstein . [1] leaf paper, 23x44 cm. Poster printed on one side, the Rogochover's responsum on the other. Moderate condition. Poster pasted on repurposed paper. Tears with lack.
