Hilchot Yom Tov. Mahari"t Algazi. Livorno, 1794. First Edition
Hilchot Yom Tov, the Ramba"n'sֲ Hilchotֲ Bechorot, with an elucidation by Rabbi Yom Tov - the Mahari"t Algazi.
Before us is the first edition of the Ramba"n's Hilchot Bechorot and Hilchot Challah with a very lengthy commentary by the Mahari"t Algazi - among the foundational books in these laws. The Chata"m Sofer writes in his approbation to the second edition of this book: "The Land has become illuminated by his honor, but has not reached even half the honor necessary according to what is apparent from this work, called Hilchot Yom Tov, on bechorot and challah - a wondrous achievement. He has increased wisdom, from the day Mishneh LaMelech was written, a composition like this one has not been seen."
Rabbeinu Yom Tov - the Mahari"t Algazi [1727-1802] was a gaon and a kabbalist. He was the Rishon L'Tziyon, one of the leaders of his generation and theֲ Chid"a's friend, especially renowned for this book of his, which is currently printed in most editions of Talmud Bavli with the Ri"f (see more about him in this catalog).
