Shitah Mekubetzet - Bava Kamma. Venice, 1762. First Edition.
Shitah Mekubetzet on tractate Bava Kamma, or, by its lesser known name, Aseifat Zekeinim, by Rabbi Betzalel Ashkenazi, one of the leading rabbis in the Land of Israel during the 16th century, and rabbi of the Ar"i HaKadosh.
Before us is the first edition of the monumental work, Shitah Mekubetzet, one of the most important books by the Later Authorities , if not the most important. Torah literature relates to it as to a book by one of the Earlier Authorities. The general consensus is that the Ar"i HaKadosh, disciple of the author, was the one who edited Shitah Mekubetzet.
It was customary in the past that a bridegroom would receive a Sha"s on the occasion of his wedding, and a bar-mitzvah boy would receive Shitah Mekubetzet as his gift.
