Beit HaLevi - First Edition with the Author's (?) Glosses and Corrections
Beit HaLevi, novellae on Talmudic topics. Renowned book by Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveitchik of Brisk. He is known by the name of this book, as "the author of Beit HaLevi." Warsaw, 1890. First edition.
There are approximately 20 handwritten corrections and supplements. The glosses are primarily in the first leaves of the book. Close study of the content of the glosses reveals characteristic author's corrections and glosses - and comparison to the author of Beit HaLevi's handwriting shows that apparently, this is the author's handwriting!
For example: In siman 3 (leaf 12) 'the Rada"k's responsum' is written a number of times, and the handwriting indicates 'Rada"ch.' The intent of the book is indeed the responsa of Rabbi David ben Chaim HaCohen of Corfu - the Rada"ch (printed in Constantinople 1537-1538) and not to Rada"k [Rabbi David Kimchi].
Lengthy handwritten scholarly gloss on leaf 75, in which the writer disputes the basis of what is written in the book. This handwriting is not similar to the handwriting of the other corrections and supplements, and its writer is unknown.
The (incomplete) copy before us: 2-76 leaves. 27 cm. Moderate-fine condition. Aging stains. Minimal worming perforations. Brittle paper. Tears in the corners of some of the leaves. Lacking title page. Detached binding.
