Group of [3] Letters Written by Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef to his Sons
Three letters written by Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef to his sons. The letters were written in Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef's characteristic clear and beautiful handwriting during his service as Rishon L'Tziyon L'Yisrael. Jerusalem, 1976-1988.
* Two letters to his son and successor, Rishon L'Tziyon Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef. In the letters, there are requests to examine Torah scholars for the purpose of giving rabbinic ordination and permits to instruct [סמיכת רבנות והיתר הוראה]. It is interesting to see that Rabbi Ovadiah requests that his son Rabbi Yitzchak substitute for him to give rabbinic ordination, which constitutes saying that he sees him as his successor. And indeed, "He will do the will of those who fear Him" and after his passing, his son was appointed - after quite a few struggles - as his successor to be Rishon L'Tziyon and Chief Rabbi of Israel.
* Letter to his son Rabbi Ya'akov, who predeceased his father. Rabbi Ovadiah requests from his son that he give a package of books to his brother Rabbi Yitzchak. It is fitting to note that his son Rabbi Ya'akov allowed himself to disagree with his father's halachic rulings, as well as with his political opinions, and as such he was distanced from the family and from the Shas party. Yet, during his final illness, his father spoke of his greatness in Torah and called for prayers for his health and even eulogized him at his funeral.
[3] letters on official stationery, handwritten and signed by Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef. Various sizes. Overall fine condition.
