Nachalat Shimon. Lashchov, 1815. First Edition
Nachalat Shimon - Chassidic and kabbalistic essays on the Torah portions by Rabbi Shimon Ashkenazi of Dobromil [Lashchov], 1815. First edition. Incomplete copy.
The author [1740?-1802] was the primary disciple of Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk, as well as of the Chozeh of Lublin. His sayings are brought in many books by Chassidic leaders. He was the rabbi of Dobromil and established a Chassidic study hall there, which was active until the Holocaust. A mausoleum was constructed over his grave, and many went to pray there.
The book opens with the weekly Torah portion Noach, and not with Bereishit. His publisher and disciple Rabbi Shmuel of Premishla wrote regarding this: Since the order of Creation is combined with the contrasting celestial order, via the ladder placed on the ground ... and given that those who watch anticipate ... it's best to stay silent on these matters ... and he closed his eyes to this intentionally ... leaving them concealed, without interpreting them.
Stefansky,ֲ Chassidut 390.
