The letter of the Rebbe of Lubavitch the Rayatz regarding kosher food for students - signature of his Holiness - Riga, 1933
A rare and interesting letter from the Rebbe the Rayatz, who deals with activities to obtain kosher food for the Jewish students in the city of Bern. "According to the news from there, the situation is becoming difficult and there is a fear that the matter will be cancelled, and therefore I am here to ask him to take the appropriate steps to keep the matter from being cancelled."
"And I very much request that he write to me about the steps he has taken in this matter, and he can write in whatever language he is more comfortable writing in."
The letter is written on a typewriter on the Rebbe's official paper. The Rebbe's signature appears on the letter in his holy handwriting.
Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson (known as the Rayatz; 1880-1950) was the sixth Rebbe in the line of Lubavitcher Chabad Chasidic Rebbes, of which he was the head from 1920.
He became known for the extent of his selfless activity in order to strengthen the observance of the Torah and mitzvot throughout the Diaspora of Israel. The letter before us is part of this extensive activity.
His place in the Lubavitch Chabad presidency was succeeded by his son-in-law, Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the last Rebbe.

מכתבו של האדמו"ר הריי"צ מליובאוויטש למען כשרות המזון של הסטודנטים - חתימת יד קודשו – ריגא, תרצ"ג
מכתב נדיר ומעניין מאת האדמו"ר הריי"צ, העוסק בפעילות למען השגת מזון כשר לסטודנטים היהודים בעיר ברן. "לפי הידיעות משם הנה המצב בזה נעשה קשה ויש חשש, שלא יתבטל הדבר, ואשר על כן הנני בזה לבקשו לאחוז הצעדים הראויים כדי להחזיק הדבר שלא יתבטל".
"והנני מבקשו מאוד לכתוב לי מהצעדים שעשה בדבר זה, ויוכל לכתוב באיזה שפה שנוח לו יותר לכתוב בה".
המכתב כתוב במכונת כתיבה על גבי נייר רשמי של האדמו"ר. על המכתב מופיעה חתימתו של האדמו"ר בכתב יד קודשו.
רבי יוסף יצחק שניאורסון (מכונה הריי"צ; תר"מ-תש"י) היה האדמו"ר השישי בשושלת אדמו"רי חסידות חב"ד ליובאוויטש, שבראשה עמד משנת ה'תר"ף (1920).
נודע בגודל פעילותו במסירות נפש למען חיזוק שמירת התורה והמצוות בכל תפוצות ישראל. המכתב שלפנינו הוא חלק מפעילות ענפה זו.
את מקומו בנשיאות חב"ד ליובאוויטש, ירש חתנו, האדמו"ר רבי מנחם מנדל שניאורסון, הרבי האחרון.
