BROWN HERBERT C.: (1912-2004) American Chemist, Nobel Prize winner for Chemistry, 1979. Red ink signature ('Herbert C. Brown') to the verso of a postcard featuring an image of the railway track at Falconara Marittima in Italy. Beneath his signature Brown has added a scientific formula relating to the chemical compounds Organoborane and incorporating the letters H, C & B, further observing '(My parents were far-seeing in giving me those initials!)'. Addressed in another hand to an Italian collector and post marked at Lafayette, Indiana, 20th June 1980. VG
Brown's graphic representation relating to Organoborane and his comments regarding his initials were part of his Nobel Lecture entitled From Little Acorns to Tall Oaks - From Boranes through Organoboranes, delivered on 8th December 1979.
